(PhD student, 36 months)

starting July 1, 2020 for a research project on the topic of Leadership in times of digitalization.

Your profile:

  • Interested in social motivation and social interaction
  • Experience in planning and conducting empirical research and analyzing data
  • Exerience in or interest in programming studies with software packages like DirectRT, MediaLab, Inquisit, or Qualtrics
  • Degree in psychology and advanced knowledge about social psychology, motivation, or organizational psychology

For research projects that will start on July 1, 2020 (duration of 3 years), we are currently seeking for seven highly committed

Research Scientists /
Ph.D. Students (m/f/o) in part-time

in conjunction with the research network „Human-Agent Interaction” Within seven projects coming from a social science perspective we investigate how interacting with intelligent, language-based software agents impacts human performance and human acceptance of agents (65% volume of employment).

Writing your dissertation on a self-generated research question during the project running time is desired and will be explicitly supported. The dissertation projects will be mentored at IWM, but are closely cooperating with external partner institutions from the field of data science.

We are looking for a dedicated

Post-doctoral Researcher (100%)

starting May 1, 2020 (or later), until end of April 2023

within the Junior Research Group Social Media. The research focus of this Junior Research Group is on the use of social media for knowledge-related Internet usage, either in professional settings or in everyday life. Current research of the group deals, for example, with the question of how the use of professional social network sites leads to new ideas and informational benefits. Other topics are the smartphone use of mothers for stress coping or informal learning with YouTube videos.
Your task will be to develop an independent research profile (preferably on the topic of knowledge-related media use in the family), to publish at a high level and to attract competitive third-party funding. In addition, you will be involved in the supervision of (doctoral) students and support the administrative management of the junior research group.

Your profile:

  • Experience in planning, running and analyzing empirical studies
  • Research focus on effects of (knowledge-related) social media use, in particular in the family or in informal settings
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Openness towards Open Science
  • Experience in writing grant proposals
  • Interest/expertise in computational methods (automated content analysis, big data) is an asset
  • Doctorate in psychology (media- , social- or organizational psychology) or communication science
  • Very good command of English; knowledge of German is an asset

Ihre Aufgaben:

  • Konzeption, Durchführung, Auswertung, und Dokumentation empirischer Studien
  • Vorstellung der Forschungsergebnisse auf nationalen und internationalen Tagungen,
    Publikation und Dokumentation der Forschungsergebnisse in einschlägigen Fachzeitschriften
  • Mitarbeit im Rahmen der allgemeinen Institutsaufgaben

Ihr Profil:

  • Starkes Interesse an kognitiver Psychologie mit einem Schwerpunkt auf multisensorischer Integration
  • Erfahrung in der Planung, Durchführung und Analyse empirischer Untersuchungen im Bereich kognitiver Psychologie
  • Überdurchschnittlicher Abschluss in Psychologie oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet
  • Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse
