Project description

This interdisciplinary project aims at the conception, implementation and optimization of innovative multimedia guides for museum and exhibitions. The main concept is to present digital information by utilizing interactive displays. In line with the interaction with real-world objects, the applications allow manipulation via intuitive gestures for moving, rotating and scaling digital visual information.

Large optical multi-touch tabletop systems with a display diagonal of up to 210 cm can be used to explore additional information about an exhibit (e.g., in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum), to present the exhibits themselves (e.g., in the Obersalzberg Documentation Centre or the Sachsenhausen Memorial), or to prepare buildings in a city, for example, for digital exploration in public spaces (e.g., TÜsch in the foyer of Tübingen Town Hall). The information on the multi-touch devices is presented in an empiric-psychological and museum-pedagogical format: the ARTcards. They can be customized to the content and context of the various cultural institutions.
Logging data, which is continuously collected on the multi-touch tables, can be used to examine user behavior and react with possible adjustments, such as a special spatial positioning of the ARTcards on the table.
