Project description

The design and use of technology as well as the promotion of digital literacy are central fields of action in the field of education. For this, the meta project Digi-EBF (Digitization of the Education Sector) supports projects of the BMBF funding line for “Digitization in Education” in the framework program “Empirical Educational Research”. The subproject of the IWM focuses on teacher education. Additionally, the online portal e-teaching.org serves as a platform.

Digi-EBF is a collaborative meta project of the University of Duisburg-Essen, the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE), the Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education (DIPF), and the IWM. The meta project addresses actors in the fields of early childhood education, general education, adult education, vocational training, and teacher education. Central objectives of the meta project are to summarize the current state of research regarding learning with digital media, to compare the state of research with the results of the funding projects, to link the different actors in the fields education and to foster knowledge transfer between science and practice.
The IWM’s subproject focuses on target groups that play a key role in teaching digital competence to future generations: teacher training students and their lecturers. Future teachers should not only experience the use of digital media in their studies, but also acquire the necessary skills to be able to use them in the classroom. In order to support lecturers of future teachers, (1) the e-teaching.org portal will be specifically expanded. For this purpose, the subproject focuses on (2) organizing and conducting professional forums and (3) publishing target group relevant reviews. To evaluate the effectiveness of digital media, we develop (4) standardized measurement methods which will be made available via a digital platform to lecturers and other interested persons.
