Prof. Dr. Ulrike Cress

Ulrike Cress is a full professor at the University of Tuebingen and deputy director of the Knowledge Media Research Center. She studied psychology at the University of Tuebingen (diploma 1993), achieved her Ph.D. in 2000 with a dissertation about self-regulated learning. In 2006 she got her venia legendi for psychology doing a work on the information-exchange dilemma. With her lab „knowledge construction“ she is doing research on learning with new media in formal settings as well as in informal settings. She is interested in knowledge management, and in the development and implementation of media-based learning scenarios. In particular she works on the social and cognitive processes of people constructing new knowledge. Much of her research aims to further develop the Co-Evolution Model of Individual Learning and Collaborative Knowledge Building, which she presented in 2008.

Ulrike Cress conducted many projects about web-based learning (financed by EU, DFG, National and federal ministries oft Science). She is one oft the Principle Investigators of the European Network of Excellence STELLAR, and member of the DFG Research Group Analyse und Förderung effektiver Lehr-Lernprozesse (FOR738). She is also one of the Principle Investigators of the LEAD-Graduate School (Learning, Educational Achievement, and Life Course Development; Graduate School GSC 1028), that is financed by the German Excellence Initiative. She is member of the Program Committee of the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern, Executive Editor of the International Journal of Computer-supported Collaborative Learning and board member of the Educational Psychologist and of Transactions on Learning Technology. Furthermore, she is member of the CSCL-Committee within the International Society of the Learning Sciences.

For many international congresses she regularly serves as a program-committee member: e.g. for CSCL, ICLS, EC-TEL, ICCE, i-know, CSEDU, WikiSym. She was co-chair of EC-TEL 09, eMOOCs 2013, ICCE 13, ICCE14 und OpenSym 2014.
