Narratisation of historical reconstructions
ScienceCampus Tuebingen, Cluster: Using Narrative Elements in Expository Informational Environments: Conveying Knowledge by Entertainment Formats?
January 2010 - December 2012
ScienceCampus Tuebingen, budget resources of KMRC
Informational environments, especially in informal learning settings, are increasingly characterized by a blurring of boundaries between entertaining and informational formats. Especially with archaeological and historical topics, more and more narrative and fictional elements are combined with educational contents. The educational contents are thereby embedded into suspenseful narratives and visualized by re-enactments and virtual reality reconstructions. This project examines with the help of the narrative embedment of an accessible virtual reality reconstruction of a renaissance castle, how the narrative embedment and also the visualization by virtual reality reconstructions influence cognitive reception processes and knowledge acquisition. The project is executed in cooperation with the Wilhelm-Schickard-Institute for Informatics of the University of Tuebingen in the context of the ScienceCampus Tübingen.
