Prof. Dr. Ulrike Cress

Head of Knowledge Construction Lab.

Ulrike Cress is a university professor for empirical research in education. She studied psychology at the University of Tuebingen (diploma 1993), achieved her Ph.D. in the year 2000 with a dissertation about self-regulated learning. In 2006 she got her venia legendi for psychology doing a work on the information-exchange dilemma. From 1993 to 1998 she worked as a research fellow at the German Institute of Research for Distance Education (DIFF) in Tuebingen. From 1998 to 2000 she worked at the psychological institute of the University of Tuebingen where she was assistant professor from 2000 to 2006 at the department of Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hesse.

From 2006-2009 she has been leading the lab Design and Implementation of Integrative Learning Environments at the Knowledge Media Research Center in Tuebingen. Together with her new Knowledge Construction lab she is doing research on learning with new media in formal settings as well as in informal and web-settings. She is interested in knowledge management, and in the development and implementation of media-based learning scenarios. In particular she works on the social and cognitive processes of people constructing new knowledge.
