Prof. Dr. Stephan Schwan

Head of the Cybermedia Lab.

Stephan Schwan is principal research scientist and deputy director of the Knowledge Media Research Center Tuebingen as well as university professor for research on teaching and learning. He studied psychology at the University of Tuebingen (diploma 1988), earned his doctoral degree in psychology in 1992 and habilitated in psychology in 2000 at the University of Tuebingen. From 1989-1992 he worked as research associate at the Department of Psychology at the University of Tuebingen, Department of Cognitive and Biological Psychology. In 1993 he started working as a research associate at the German Institute of Research for Distance Education (DIFF), located at the University of Tuebingen, Department of Applied Cognitive Science, where he stayed until 1998. From 1999 until 2000 he was research fellow in the university project VirtuGrade, from 2000-2002 he worked as assistant professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Tuebingen. In October 2002 he was appointed to a full professorship in eLearning at the University Linz where he was at the same time head of the Institute of Education Science and Psychology until 2004. Since 2004 Stephan Schwan has been full professor for research on teaching and learning at the Knowledge Media Research Center Tuebingen. Together with his lab he works on perceptual and cognitive processes during the reception of three-dimensional and interactive visual presentations (cypermedia) as well as on user centered design.
